Edinburgh One, Morrison Street, Edinburgh 

The project at Edinburgh One, Morrison Street, Edinburgh comprises the extending the footprint of an existing 6 storey plus basement building as well as an additional two storeys on top. The final building will provide Grade A office accommodation in Edinburgh’s top commercial area. As well as providing a modern office facility with enhancement of the internal space that meets the aspirations of high end companies in the modern setting, the assessment criteria for ESG credentials are a key part of the project objectives. It is currently on target for a BREEAM excellent rating and our input in this respect includes the provision of sustainable drainage in the form of a green roof and review of the structure in relation to the embodied carbon assessment. The structural design included a full investigation including a ground investigation to verify the design parameters and capacity of the existing building to accommodate additional storeys and the provision of a report to underwrite the design for prospective purchasers and funders. The building has a concrete services core for stability and the main structure is a steel frame with composite concrete floors. The project includes the complete replacement of the façade on two elevations and the enhancement of the internal space. Although BIM is not a requirement of the project, we are carrying out the design in a 3D environment using Revit.
