Owen joined the expanding Christie Gillespie team in July 2020. Graduating with a master degree in Structural Engineering with architectural design from Heriot-Watt University in 2017, Owen started with Graham Construction as a site engineer. He has experience working on various large projects such as construction of an HVDC Converter substation in Blackhillock in Moray, Scotland, The Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Projects, and the investigation and demolition work of the Churchill Way flyovers as part of an award-winning team. Owen was responsible for the setting out of various structural and civil elements including planning and consulting with local authorities to coordinate both day and night-time works in addition to writing and assessing risk assessments, permits and organising and conducting large volume concrete pours.

Having made the switch from contracting to consultancy at the start of 2020, Owen Joined Christie Gillespie in October 2020. Since joining the team, he has taken his onsite practical knowledge and understanding of civil and structural components to jobs, adapted and solved problems efficiently to deliver on a wide range of projects across the public and private sector. Having several years’ onsite survey experience, Owen has developed valuable knowledge of dealing with structural and civil surveys and site investigations.

Additionally, Owen is working towards Chartered Status with the Institute of Civil Engineers and seeks to broaden his understanding of the design consultancy aspect of Civil and Structural engineering. He has also registered to become a STEM ambassador, and he hopes to have the opportunity to help educate and encourage the next generation of Engineers.

Outside of work, Owen has an avid interest in Golf: he regularly competes in open and regional competitions where he somehow manages to maintain a single-digit handicap. He enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as slowly improving his culinary skills.
